Ok, over 450 of you have viewed my posts on my frustration with Target and Hanes and their discontinuance of the “Honey” flesh-colored pantyhose for women of color. And of course they have not provided any viable alternatives. I’ve tried individually to write these companies with little success. Hanes said shop at Wal-Mart and Target said…nothing really. Well, I don’t shop at Wal-Mart, and I don’t want to pay $8 to $10 for one pair of hose at a department store whose color selection really is no better. So I figured that enough of you have shown interest in this subject that we could channel that energy into a letter campaign telling these companies just how we feel about their ignoring us in this segment of the marketplace. Now that we have Michelle Obama going to the WhiteHouse, I think we deserve some attention. Sasha and Malia shouldn’t have the same frustrations when they grow older knowing that retailers really don’t give a damn about brown skin. So sisters, as the Aretha Franklin and Annie Lennox song goes, we got to do it for ourselves. So won’t you please join me and write a letter to the muckety-mucks at Target and/or Hanes and tell them how you feel. If you get a response, please share it with the blog.
